Sustainable Buildings and Grounds at Eastern

Eastern Connecticut State University’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship can be seen throughout the campus landscape and buildings.

Eastern’s “green” buildings include dormitories that are built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver standards and the Science Building which is LEED Silver Certified.  As students walk from class to class they cross a large bio-swale that reduces and filters storm run-off whilst adding to the scenic wonder of Eastern.  In classrooms, the library, and the student center, although many may be unaware, a state-of-the-art energy conservation technology known as Encelium reduces energy use and increases comfort for building occupants. The Encelium Control Systems have reduced electricity use through lighting controls and occupancy sensors.
