Leadership (Leap)

About the Series

This student leadership series is a 3 tiered personal student leadership program to enhance campus culture by providing leadership training experiences for students.The program encourages students to explore their own individual leadership development potential. Students will engage in a series of sessions throughout the academic year that will enhance their Liberal Arts experience by exploring topics in line with the University’s Core Values.

Tier I

New Student Leader Series
New Student Leader Series is designed for new Eastern students or current students with little or no leadership experience. Topics for the fall may include: Learning Leadership Styles, Defining Leadership, Developing a Leadership Plan and Time Management.

The series will consist of 4 fall sessions and 5 spring sessions. Students are asked to attend all sessions each semester to receive a certificate of completion at our recognition banquet. Sessions will be held on select Thursdays from 3:30-5pm in the Student Center 219.

Fall 2015
Thursday, September 17 – Developing a Personal Leadership Plan

Thursday, December 3 – StrengthsQuest: Learning Leadership Styles

Spring 2016

Tier II

Engaged Student Leader Series
The Engaged Student Leader Series is for current student leaders who wish to further explore their own personal leadership and expand upon their current leadership skills and abilities. Sessions will consist of guest speakers, group projects, discussions around leadership models, and creative assignments that will challenge them to further discover themselves as leaders on campus and in the community. Topics for the fall include: Mentoring, Cultural Competence, Networking and Public Speaking.

The series will consist of 4 fall sessions and 5 spring sessions. Students are asked to attend all sessions each semester to receive a certificate of completion at our recognition banquet.Sessions will be held on select Wednesdays from 5-7pm in the Student Center 219.

Tier III

Advanced Student Leader Series
The Advanced Student Leader Series will be offered to students who have had extensive leadership experience on campus and/or have completed the first two steps of the program. This level of involvement in the program will allow advanced student leaders to become mentors to younger incoming first year students and assist them in their leadership journey at Eastern. Advanced Leaders will also assist with larger scale leadership programs and services to benefit the entire campus community.

This series will meet bi-weekly on Fridays in the Student Center room 221.
