General Information How to Apply For Teacher Certification

For Undergraduate and Graduate Teacher Candidates Who Have Completed All Requirements for Certification

  1. Mandatory attendance at the “Certification Seminar for Student Teachers” held each semester.
  2. Complete a TeacherCertificationRecommendation. This form is available in the Education Department (Webb Hall 124), the Graduate Division (Webb Hall 160), or on-line.
    • Complete the form in its entirety
    • Use black or blue ink and write legibly
  3. Complete the ED 170A Short Form Application for Connecticut Initial Educator Certificate. This form is available in the Education Department (Webb Hall 124), the Graduate Division (Webb Hall 160), or on-line.
    • Complete “Page 1” only.
    • Use black or blue ink and write legibly
  4. Submit all of the following forms/documents to the Office of the Dean, School of Education/Professional Studies, Webb Hall 160.
    • Request for Teacher Certification Recommendation Form
    • ED 170A Short Form Application for Connecticut Educator Certificate
    • Praxis I Score Report (reflecting required passing score) or Praxis I Waiver from the Connecticut State Department of Education
    • Praxis II Score Report
    • Official transcript with degree posted
    • Official transcript(s) from any institution that you attended
    • Reading Test Score Report for Elementary/Early Childhood Education applicants
    • Passing Early Childhood Education Portfolio letter
    • Do not send money with the application

    Only completed applications with all supporting documents will be accepted. 

  5. Upon completion of the certification recommendation process, the ED 170A Short Form Application for Connecticut Initial Educator Certificate will be returned to the applicant.  At this point, the applicant will forward the following documents to the Connecticut State Department of Education in Hartford, Connecticut:
    • ED 170A.
    • $200 processing fee.
    • $100 processing fee for each additional endorsements.
    • Submit the complete packet that was returned to you. Do not remove any of the items in your packet when you submit them to the Connecticut State Department of Education Bureau of Educator Preparation and Certification.
    • Official transcript with degree posted
    • Official transcript(s) from any institution that you attended.
